This fine art photography project, to create a multimedia book of the art and beauty I saw in the reflections in the canals of Venice began in 2012. Six years and thousands of photographs and videos later, it is complete. For more details and information on how to order the book, see the page I have created about the book.
Venice is a unique city, but she has been photographed and painted so much by so many great artists and photographers that it is very difficult to find something new and fresh to say or show. I believe this book has achieved that. At least I have not seen Venice shown this way, through reflections alone, anywhere else. You must judge for yourself.
For the moment, Reflections of Venice is only available as a multimedia digital book on iBooks. This limits it to a Mac or an iPad for reading/viewing. The book includes videos, audio, interactive views of Venice, slideshows, a full glossary and other multimedia content that make iBooks the ideal platform. (Technically you can download it and view it on an iPhone but I honestly don’t recommend it and would rather this were not done. It’s just too small to do the book justice.) My plan is to produce an ePub version next which could be viewed on any ebook reader such as Kindle and so on as well as various apps for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android. Unfortunately the ePub standard is not up to the iBooks multimedia platform in terms of quality and functionality for this kind of book, but it will still be worth viewing/reading the book in this format for those who do not have access to a Mac or iPad and iBooks.
Choosing the photographs of Venice reflections that would eventually appear in the book was a long and difficult task. Of the thousands of photos taken, about 260 ended up in the book.
The multimedia book Reflections of Venice is best viewed/read on an iPad (although it also works well on a Mac). The combination of a high res display and the ease of navigation make this the ideal platform. The photographs look beautiful. The video plays full screen and looks great. It is an ideal platform for fine art photography and video.
