[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ever since I really started seeing reflections in the canals of Venice in 2012, I have been fascinated by the whole world of art and beauty that exists in very fleeting and fragile form if you look down and sometimes really far down into the water in that extraordinary city. I had not experienced Acqua Alta which is the high tide that regularly floods Venice to varying degrees. I wanted to. So I went back in November and December of 2017 and spent almost a month there. I was rewarded by numerous days when Saint Mark’s Square was flooded and I was able to capture the images I had imagined and more. I’m posting some of the images from that time. In fact I am working on a new book, Reflections of Venice – Art and Beauty in the Water (working title). So this is a sneak preview.[/vc_column_text]

It’s a slightly different perception, a change in focus, that’s required to see reflections just as clearly or even more clearly than the world that is being reflected.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_masonry_media_grid style=”load-more” items_per_page=”8″ element_width=”3″ btn_color=”white” btn_size=”sm” arrows_design=”none” arrows_position=”inside” arrows_color=”blue” paging_design=”radio_dots” paging_color=”grey” loop=”” autoplay=”-1″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1531619738653-f6791681-4f2f-10″ include=”23925,23916,23915,23914,23918,23917″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Acqua Alta is quite a phenomenon. The lowest point in Venice is St. Mark’s Square and this floods even when most of the city remains dry. Water starts bubbling up through the drains in St. Mark’s Square. Soon the square is largely under water. Pedestrians take to the raised platforms that are installed just for this purpose. Photographers put on waders and head out into the water to capture that elusive shot.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_masonry_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1531619738656-98145d9b-5c1a-10″ include=”23927,23926,23924,23922,23909″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Perhaps the most fascinating reflections, and the hardest to see and capture, are the completely abstract patters of color and light that are very common but mostly go unnoticed. Here are just a few but I’ll include a video at the end with some more so you can see them in action.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZwbGF5ZXIudmltZW8uY29tJTJGdmlkZW8lMkYyNTE0MjY0MzklMjIlMjB3aWR0aCUzRCUyMjY0MCUyMiUyMGhlaWdodCUzRCUyMjM2MCUyMiUyMGZyYW1lYm9yZGVyJTNEJTIyMCUyMiUyMHdlYmtpdGFsbG93ZnVsbHNjcmVlbiUyMG1vemFsbG93ZnVsbHNjcmVlbiUyMGFsbG93ZnVsbHNjcmVlbiUzRSUzQyUyRmlmcmFtZSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]The video will give you an idea of how the reflections change constantly. It’s not just a matter of aiming and clicking and getting the shot (for a still). There is timing and observation involved. In fact you can get many different photos from exactly the same scene and frame.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Perfect photos as always with David
