In the Autumn of 2015 we (Georgianna and I) made a lightning voyage of exploration by car from Paris all the way through central and south France to Nice and Menton at the extreme eastern part of Provence. I’m posting just a few of the amazing places we visited and sights we saw on that trip.
Brantome on the river Dronne in the Dordogne is listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages. We stayed at the charming Moulin de l’Abbaye hotel, a stone’s throw from the ancient abbey which is the heart of the village.
Heading south through rolling green hills and forests splashed with autumn colors we visited Sarlat-le-Caneda, another of France’s most beautiful villages. We stayed in Beynac-et-Cazenac, a small, quaint medieval village under the lea of the large and imposing Chateau Beynac which commands views of the Dordogne river and surrounding countryside, dotted with chateaus and farms. The gardens and chateau of Marqueyssac and the neighboring villages including La Roque Gageac are featured in the photos.
Provence is amazing. All the way from the hilltop villages in the Luberon such as Gordes, Bonnieux and many others, through the old Roman towns like Aix-en-Provence, to the Mediterranean colors, buildings and beaches in the Cote d’Azur all the way to Nice and Menton.
