Venice and black and white photography seem to be made for each other! The textures, the tones, the possible compositions, the people, all seem to lend themselves to depiction in monochrome where line and form and texture and tone take precedence over color and stand out in their own right. I had the good fortune of spending three and half weeks in Venice with the sole purpose of completing photography on an upcoming book, a complete revamp of Reflections of Venice – Art and beauty in the water. These black and white images are not part of the book but a byproduct of trip that I wanted to share.
I was mainly in Venice for the reflections and I was not disappointed. Here are just a few of the amazing reflections that are in the canals and in the water in general to be captured by anyone who sees them.
Of course there is much more to Venice than reflections. You can wander endlessly, even covering the same ground time and again, and never run out of fascinating subject matter to photograph.
